Liv, an AI companion for families caring for someone with dementia

When someone you love asks the same question all day, you can't always be the one to answer. Liv can. Liv calls them on your schedule, answers every call, as often as they call, day or night, and tells you how it went.

  • Keeps them company and never runs out of patience with the same question
  • Nothing to operate: Liv's calls can answer by themselves
  • Talks about what they care about and remembers what they said last time
  • Tells you about pain, confusion, a rough night or meals they didn't eat

5.0 from 69 customer reviews. Named Most Comprehensive in NCOA's 5 Best Monitoring Systems for Older Adults.

Read what the video says

A short story about a daughter and her mom, Ruth.

Mom calls 15 times per day. It's so hard to tell if she really needs me. But with work, practice and homework, I have no time and might be missing something. Livindi tells me if she's sleeping, eating or isn't well. She can call Livindi anytime. And I can choose from several different voices.

"Hi, Ruth. How did you sleep last night?" "Not well. My stomach hurt, but I'm better." "I'm glad you feel okay. Do you have time to talk again about your father's bakery?" "Yes."

Livindi is always there to have real conversations, to check in and be there when I can't.

What Liv does for someone living with dementia

Answers again, and again

They can call Liv any time, as many times as they want. Liv gives the same kind, patient answer on the tenth call as it did on the first.

Talks about what they know

In the free Livindi Helper app, you write about them: who visits, what they did for work, what they enjoy now. Liv brings it up when they call for company, and remembers what they said last time.

Nothing to learn or find

There's no app to open, no password and no button to find. Liv's calls can answer by themselves, so they don't have to touch the screen, and captions show what's being said.

Checks in on your schedule

Once a day, twice a day, mornings only. You decide. Liv asks how they slept, whether they've eaten and how they're feeling.

Tells them their schedule

They can call Liv and ask about their schedule as often as they need, and Liv patiently tells them every time. Liv can also remind them about meals and medications.

Speaks in a voice you choose

You pick the voice, the topics and the schedule from the free Livindi Helper app on your phone.

What Liv does for you, the caregiver

Caring for a parent or spouse with dementia can mean the phone never stops, even when you're at work or away.

Answers when you can't

Liv is there when you're traveling, in a meeting or asleep, and between caregiver visits, so you're not the only one they can reach.

Tells you what it heard

You get a short summary after every call and the full transcript if you want it. Liv flags what you'd want to know, such as pain, confusion, a rough night or meals they didn't eat.

Keeps the family on the same page

The whole family can use the same free app and plan what to do together by video or chat.

Works with monitoring

On Studio, Home and Max, door and motion sensors show you changes in their routine, like a door opening late at night, and they can press a call button or say "Help Me" to reach you.

What families say about Livindi

"...I live a few hours from my mom and she was in Assisted Living. It was so awesome to be able to keep in touch with her so she could see me. When older folks get dementia, they can't do a cell phone....too hard to open it, find a number, etc. This was a life saver!"
Renee, daughter
"Your service was a lifesaver during the time I was a caregiver for my father who recently passed from dementia."
Sheila, daughter and caregiver

Why repeated questions and old stories come up so often

The person asking may not remember asking a moment ago. The Alzheimer's Association's guidance on repetition suggests answering again rather than arguing or using logic.

Older memories can last much longer than recent ones. The Alzheimer's Association's page on reminiscence explains why, and suggests using things like photos and music to spark pleasant memories.

Liv is set up to talk this way. It answers again without getting tired, and it can go back to the stories your family gives it. Those organizations don't review or endorse Livindi. What studies show about reminiscence, and how to write a bio for Liv.

What Liv isn't

Liv is AI, not a person. It doesn't treat dementia or slow it, and it doesn't replace you or the people who care for them. It isn't an emergency service. In an emergency, call 911.

Whether Liv is a fit depends on the person, including how comfortable they are talking on a tablet and how far along their dementia is. You know them best, and you can cancel Liv anytime.

Can an AI companion help someone with dementia?

Liv can keep someone company and answer their calls at any hour, as often as they call. It talks about what they care about and sends the family a summary. It doesn't treat dementia or slow it.

Does Liv call them, or do they have to call Liv?

Both. Liv calls on the schedule you choose, and they can call Liv any time, as often as they want.

What if they ask the same question over and over?

Liv answers every time. It never runs out of patience, and they can call as many times as they want. Liv includes 10 hours a month, and a second Liv subscription adds another 10 hours a month for $20.

Can Liv tell them what's on their schedule?

Yes. They can call Liv and ask about their schedule as often as they need, and Liv patiently tells them every time. Liv can also remind them about meals and medications.

Will they know Liv isn't a person?

Liv is AI, not a person. For someone with memory changes, that may not always be clear to them, so decide what's right for them.

How will I know how a call went?

You get a short summary after every call and the full transcript if you want it. Liv flags things like pain, confusion, a rough night or meals they didn't eat.

Do they have to set anything up or work the tablet?

No. You set the schedule, the topics and the voice from the Livindi Helper app. Liv's calls can answer by themselves, with no app, no password and no button to find.
